LIBRARY 164 · ARLINGTON SCENARIO 9 · TEXT PRACTICE
Runway 16: occupied runway and go-around
Prioritize a safe go-around, announce it when able, and rejoin the correct pattern.
Text practice is available.
Practice this Arlington lesson
The narrated video is not yet available; listening review is pending. Aircraft actions, checklist verification and cockpit scoring are disabled.
Your scenario
Training simulation only. Arlington, runway one six, right traffic. The fictional wind is one six zero at seven knots. You are SportStar Eight Two Seven Echo Victor, an Evektor SportStar Max. Small-propeller pattern altitude is one thousand two hundred feet MSL. Use self-announcements, and keep flying and looking for traffic ahead of radio work.
Practice goals
- Prioritize a safe go-around, announce it when able, and rejoin the correct pattern.
- Practice self-announcements with aircraft control ahead of speech.
- Aircraft actions, checklist verification, and cockpit scoring remain disabled.
Respond aloud during the 10- or 12-second response windows. Pause longer whenever needed. Private decisions have no time limit in text practice. Aircraft control comes before speech.
Read the scenario script Text lesson script
This script supports the text practice exercise. Responses appear after each practice prompt.
- Draft for instructor review. Fictional traffic and weather. Practice self-announcements, not controller readbacks. Aircraft controls, checklist verification, and cockpit scoring are disabled. Respond aloud during each silent window. Pause the video for more time. Aircraft control always comes before speech.
- Training simulation only.
- You are established on final runway one six after a normal right pattern. A touch and go had been planned. You now see a vehicle still on the landing runway. The simulated go-around flight path is unobstructed.
- What takes priority before any radio response?
- Pause the video now and decide. This is a private decision, not a radio transmission. Resume when ready.
- Abandon the landing and fly the go-around using the airplane procedures. Communicate when workload permits; do not wait for a radio reply or clearance.
- The go-around is established and workload permits. Announce the change of plan.
- Arlington traffic, SportStar Eight Two Seven Echo Victor, going around runway one six, remaining in right traffic, Arlington.
- Continue straight beyond the departure end in the simulated clear flight path. The next turn occurs only when the normal crosswind criteria and safe spacing are met. Do not turn across another aircraft or make a low-altitude orbit to save the approach.
- The simulation advances only after you are beyond the departure end, within three hundred feet below pattern altitude, the path is clear, and a normal right crosswind turn is appropriate.
- Join downwind at pattern altitude, continuing the visual scan and listening watch. The script does not set aircraft speeds, flap settings, bank angles, or exact turn points.
- Circuit 2. Your plan for this circuit is full stop.
- You are established on right downwind for runway one six. The intended landing is full stop. Make the position call when workload and the frequency permit.
- Arlington traffic, SportStar Eight Two Seven Echo Victor, right downwind runway one six, full stop, Arlington.
- You are established on right base for runway one six. The intended landing is full stop. Make the position call when workload and the frequency permit.
- Arlington traffic, SportStar Eight Two Seven Echo Victor, right base runway one six, full stop, Arlington.
- You are established on final for runway one six. The intended landing is full stop. Make the position call when workload and the frequency permit.
- Arlington traffic, SportStar Eight Two Seven Echo Victor, final runway one six, full stop, Arlington.
- Before the new landing, the scenario confirms that the runway obstruction has been removed and the runway is visually clear. If it were not, another go-around would remain appropriate.
- You land and leave the landing runway at a suitable exit. The entire airplane is beyond the applicable runway holding-position markings and is clear of the landing runway. You remain clear of any other runway; no taxi route is implied.
- Now announce that you are clear of the landing runway.
- Arlington traffic, SportStar Eight Two Seven Echo Victor, clear of runway one six, Arlington.
- End of this scenario. A clear-of-runway announcement describes an observed position. It is never a clearance for another aircraft or a substitute for a visual check.
- Going around is a new intention, not a request. Right traffic still applies to runway one six. A go-around need not include a detailed explanation on CTAF.
- End of this draft practice. Review current sources and applicable aircraft documents with a qualified instructor before operational use.
